John Hand has been working in primary education since 1978. John has been a primary school principal since 1986. John was Principal of St Oliver Plunkett National School Navan from 1997 to 2011. While there John focused on developing the school into a positive, progressive place for children to learn and grow up. During that time John oversaw the piloting of units for educational and behavioral disadvantage. This was successful and lead to other initiatives the school in dealing with children from all types of educational backgrounds and abilities. St Oliver's was a happy, smooth running and very popular school leading to increased demand for places. John Hand worked with the Board of Management to best accommodate that demand. The school was reviewed by the Whole School Evaluation Inspectorate in 2006 and was commended for its approach to curriculum, integration and general development. John is now now principal of Gaelscoil Dhroichead na Banndan, Co Corcaigh.
